Being a good neighbor to the communities surrounding the Airport has been a priority for more than three decades. By working closely with local schools, civic and community groups, and elected officials, as well as local businesses and residents, the Airport has reached out in many ways to improve the quality of life of families and individuals who live and work near the Airport.

Robert Gross Park Summer Daze
Since 2008, the Airport has hosted over 60 school-aged children from the City of Burbank’s Robert Gross Summer Daze and Summer Daze Plus programs for one morning each summer. At the Airport Fire Department, the children observe presentations by Airport staff, equipment demonstrations, and aircraft arrivals and departures. The visit is meant to educate the campers about different aspects of the Airport’s operations, as well as the various career options potentially available to them.

Tower Banner Art Contest
The Airport sponsors an annual Tower Banner art contest for high school students in the Burbank, Glendale, and Pasadena Unified School Districts. Based on a particular aviation-related theme, school art educators and city public art commissioners pick the winning artwork, which is hung on the Airport’s terminal tower and seen by millions of travelers. Second- and third-place winners have their artwork displayed in the Terminal B hallway. In addition, the Airport presents each school district with a $3,000 check to promote art education.

Airport District Blood Drive
Every summer, the Airport District Blood Drive draws over 100 people who donate blood to the Red Cross in order to replenish badly needed supplies across Southern California. Airline employees, hotel workers, parking attendants, passengers, and others all participate.
